having that encounter: ditoka
Growing up in a Christian home, attending a private Christian school, going to church every Sunday with fairly strict parents was how I looked at my life--a plain, Christian girl, who's going to excel academically, marry in the church and never experience the parties and galas my friends will all be attending. As I grew older, my mind started questioning things I've been taught over the years, for example, I used to wonder why Christians never had as much fun as those who go out drinking and partying. As my mind started to wander, the desire of a taste of this world became stronger and stronger to the point where I let my guard down. I picture God standing and waiting for me on the narrow road as I run backwards to explore the world. And after those few times (six to be exact) I've gone out partying and clubbing, I walk back towards God with nothing achieved and dissatisfaction-tion, with my clothes all raggedy and dirty and feet worn out. God's standing there, not condemning me or scolding me saying, "I told you so!" but He's standing there with His arms wide open, calling me back to Him. Without a delay I run back into His arms. Then He brought these amazing people into my life, the Champs from the SUIS camp 2013. After I met them, I yearned for the same fire that was burning in their souls. I was hungry and thirsty again for more of God and more of His Word. We fellowshipped and shared, had Bible studies and on the 4th of January, (which was a Saturday) we climbed Mount Korobaba, which for me, person-ally, was the day I recommitted my life to the Lord. As we reached the top, Akuila gave us some personal time to reflect and to listen to what God is trying to tell us. As I was looking around at His creation, I felt so refreshed and renewed. I was looking around in total awe of His amazing work and Psalm 8:4 came into mind, "..what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?" But then He answers me with a another verse, Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." There's no sin too big that our God can't forgive, His grace is sufficient for all. He also taught me through the Mount Korobaba experience that you've got to have the right company on your journey on the narrow road. You need people who will lift you up and encourage you in the Lord. Only then you will be able to grow more in His Word. As I conclude, to all you CHAMPS, keep shining and burning for God, for we were born for such a time as this! God is crying to man, "Awake, awake...O Zion" (Isaiah 52:1) Don't dim your lights and do not conform to the ways of this world, keep your fire burning for God.
